What I see every day when I go into work. That's right . . . Times Square!

Fist Weekend

So it was a rather relaxed weekend for me here in the city. Was in midtown for prep on friday and then had Saturday and Sunday to myself. Friday night I met with with a friend and the person I've been staying with for dinner in midtown at a really nice place. Because the two of them go there so offten we ended up getting the meal for free. Over the weekend it got rather cold. It snowed a little over night out in queens but there was a big more in the city. Saturday was a lazy morning and then met up with another friend for coffee. On the way home it started to snow rather hard which was kind of nice to see as I havent seen much snow in YEARS. Sunday I stayed inside almost the whole day except I needed to get a haircut. That was a very cold trip out to get my hair trimmed. The temp was in the low 30's and windy.

Today was the final day of prep before we start rehearsals tomorrow. It was a rather long day because it was the first day we were allowed into the rehearsal studios. We were setting up all our office stuff, sorting scripts, had to tape out the floor for 2 rooms, check and see that all the props were there that we needed among many other things. Tomorrow should be rather exciting. In the same building are 5 other shows rehearsing for spring openings including the revival of Evita, and the new bway version of Newsies and Ghost, the musical. Thats all i got for now.

Getting Situated

Hi everyone,
So I started this blog so people can follow me doings in NY. I have been here now for a few days so I guess I should backtrack a little to bring this blog up to date.

2/5/12
It was a very long day of travel for me. I went from Sacramento-->San Diego-->Chicago-->LaGuardia. Luckily my flights were all on time/early getting in which was nice (except for the lay over in San Diego). I got in to NY just before 11pm and quickly gathered my 2 very large and full bags from the baggage claim and then headed out into the mid 30* weather to catch a taxi. Well, because of NY winning the Superbowl that day, there were few cabs at the airport which made for a very long wait. After standing in line for 45 min. I was finally off to my friends place in Astoria Queens. After getting to his place I just decided to call it a night and passed out so fast.

2/6/12
Today was a fairly relaxed. I went into midtown to look around a little and to see where all the locations are that I would be working, the gen. management offices, the rehearsal studios, and the theatre. I then walked around a little looking around the city (up and down Broadway and a few other streets). I then went back to the apartment in Astoria and relaxed for a little bit. I then decided to walk around the neighborhood and went grocery shopping to pick up some food and other items.

2/7/12
Today was my first day of prep for the show. We, the stage management team, had a meeting in the afternoon to go over basic schedules and other basic information. Then went over to our temp. rehearsal room at the Foxwoods Theatre (where spider man is playing) to look at documents and go over some other items pertaining to the script. I also go to see a bunch of people from the creative team from LA which was a great surprise. I then decided to call it an early night and went back to the apt. to relax.

2/8/12
Today was an early-ish start for me. I had to be in midtown to start work at 10am which meant I was taking the subway at the tail end of the morning rush hour. What is usually a 20 min. subway ride into the city became a 35-40 min. ride. Good thing I always plan ahead to be early. I'm beginning to discover that with all the subway riding I'm doing, I need to get me a small compact pair of headphones so I can listen to music on the train. Anyways, we were at the Foxwoods again today for a few hours of light prep work. Around 2:00 I got to go over to the theatre to look around while the director and designers were discussing some set items and look at sight lines. Let me just say that the St. James theatre is a beautiful theatre! I was also surprised to see that it has 2 balconies which you don't see too often in Bway houses. Still not a very large house but very beautiful. The stage is also very small compared to what I was expecting. It will be interesting to see how they fit all the large scenic items into this space. But if they could do it with the Producers in the same theatre then I know it'll all work well. I then went back to my apartment to relax for a few hours. As I got off the train it began to snow lightly. That night I went in to midtown to meet up with a friend for dinner but his meeting ran way longer than expected and after hanging around Times Square for about 90 min. in the light snow fall I returned home.

So that's been the extent of my adventures so far... We shall see what tomorrow holds.
